Domestic violence does not conform to typical stereotypes. In fact, it occurs in 25% of all relationships, no matter the race, age, religion, ethnicity, culture, physical ability, financial situation, sexual orientation, social status, gender identity of either partner.
Violence in relationships can take many forms; it is not only a physical act. It may happen once in a while or all the time; each abusive relationship is different. The abuse may include; verbal abuse, physical abuse, intimidation, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, isolation, denial of rights and financial abuse.
For 35 years, the mission of Catalyst has been to prevent and reduce the incidence of domestic violence in Butte County by intervening in the cycle of violence through crisis intervention and community education.
Our Services
Safe Housing Programs
Two-phase residential programs are designed to provide victims of domestic violence and their children an environment free from abuse and violence.
HAVEN (Home Away from a Violent Environment Now) - Temporary communal living environment for victims of domestic violence and their children whose safety is at immediate risk.
Transitional Housing “Cottage” Program - The Cottage Program is a single-family living environment, in which eligible residents may reside for up to 18 months.
Crisis Intervention Services
The 24-hour crisis line is available to victims and anyone affected by domestic violence.
Education and Prevention Programs
Training to medical, law enforcement and social service agencies is offered to enhance their knowledge of domestic violence. The Teen Relationship Abuse Prevention program consists of interactive presentations, designed to educate teens about dating violence and building healthy relationships.
Counseling Program
Individual counseling and support groups are provides to help victims deal with the long-term effects of domestic violence in their lives.
Legal Program
Restraining order clinics and court accompaniment services are provided to victims of domestic violence.
Financials
Financially, Catalyst is tightly governed by a Board of Directors and managed by a long-term committed staff. Facing cutbacks from government sources whom have consistently funded these crucial services, the team at Catalyst is making a concerted effort to invite the community at large to see the victims and prioritize the problem of domestic violence. With increased needs due to the economic downturn, pressure for fundraising increases. The Catalyst team is committed to lean operations and maximum service for each dollar.
