Volunteer of the Month Christina Jewell - July 2020

Time Served: 191 Hours
Christina recently graduated from Chico State with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She is actively exploring opportunities to attend graduate school and earn her MSW. Christina joined Catalyst as a way to give back to her community and gain hands-on experience in the social work field. Christina has volunteered at Catalyst for over two years and feels a strong connection to the agency’s values and beliefs.
Christina has been a huge support at the emergency shelter. She enjoys providing resources on the hotline and interacting directly with participants. She particularly enjoys tabling at community events and telling people how awesome Catalyst is!
When she is not volunteering, her favorite way to spend time is with her daughter. They love animals and live in the foothills where they are visited by a lot of wildlife including deer, foxes, wild turkeys, and rabbits! They have even put out feeders for birds and squirrels to watch them from their porch. Of course, they also have indoor furry friends! She and her daughter have one dog and two cats.
Fun Facts: Christina lived in Japan for three years. She tutored Japanese students at a private English school. Japan holds a very special place in her heart, as it is where her daughter was born. It is also where she developed a deep love for sushi!
