Brief History
The Butte Glenn Family Violence Council was formed on June 13,
1994. Catalyst Women's Advocates, Inc., had sent letters of
invitation the previous month to Butte County management level
professionals in the criminal justice system, family advocacy agencies and
medical providers to formalize collaboration.
It was decided that a council should be formed to address
the concerns of domestic violence in Butte County. The Council
determined that it would operate as an independent entity and not function
under the Board of Supervisors. On November 2nd, 1994, with
both Glenn County and Butte County representation, the idea of a bi-county
council was presented and adopted. At the January 13, 1995 meeting,
the council adopted the name "Butte Glenn Family Violence Prevention
Council."
The Council, now known as the Butte Family Violence Prevention Council, has had
tremendous success and our protocols and attempts to standardize response
to domestic violence are under review by other rural counties as a model
program.
